Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Twilight Cover

The Twilight Saga: Book 1

Audience: 12 and up (some mature content)

Rating: A

Synopsis:

Bella Swan, a clumsy 17 year old girl, is transplanted from sunny Phoenix to dreary Forks, Washington, where her life is anything but the boring tedium she expects. She quickly spots Edward Cullen, and she catches his eye too. Edward is anything but ordinary, and Bella is enchanted by him, and he fixated on her. There’s a catch however; beautiful, extraordinary Edward is a vampire.

Chatter:

(Spoiler Alerts! ) So I’ve read and thoroughly loved Twilight, but haven’t started New Moon yet.
I wanted to take a moment and record my thoughts so far… before continuing in this series.

Bella as a vampire… it seems the obvious choice, she loves Edward, he loves her. A little neck nibbling and they could spend eternity in vampiric bliss. But at the same time, I have some concerns… could Bella be a vampire?

Bella hates blood. It makes her faint; this could make ‘hunting’ quite difficult.
Bella is clumsy. Not only is she a spaz, but Edward loves that about her. It’s one of her most endearing qualities and one of the main things that makes Bella, Bella. What will happen when she’s transformed?
Bella won’t be “Lois Lane” anymore. As Bella says, she wants the chance to be the superhero. But if Bella doesn’t need rescuing, will Edward be interested? (Or needed?)
Bella has ties to this world. She does have parents and friends. They’ll notice if she becomes graceful and beautiful overnight. Charlie’s not going to let Bella skip school every time it’s sunny. People will notice if she changes and she can’t just disappear.

This said, Stephenie Meyer has proven herself to be a more than skillful author and I’m sure she can handle all of these and more obstacles. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Questions:

What other obstacles will Bella face in her quest to become a vampire?

What do you think Bella’s vampire ‘super power’ will be?

-Paige

Ok, to answer your second question, I think, should Bella become a vampire, her power would be to negate the vampire powers of those around her (like the kid in X-Men 3).

But I don’t thinks she’s going to be a vampire. I think it’s going to end up as a tragic romance, a la of Romeo & Juliet.

Bryce, I agree that Bella might have the anit-powers - what a great idea. Edward already can’t read her mind, and she fought Japser’s calming powers. And I can’t remember - did Alice ever have a premonition directly in front of her?

[...] (Spoiler Alerts! ) Who knew Prince Charming could be mean? I think I prefer the Cinderella version of the prince, but this version is certainly much more interesting. The Sisters Grimm is a great premise for a book. If you’ve read my other posts, I love taking a look at a common story from another perspective, and in that way, this book reminds me of The Lightning Thief and Twilight. [...]

  6. Aryn Says:

I think Bella’s vampire power will be the ability to reverse other vampire’s powers; any that have to do with minds. I think so because Bella is immune to those types of talents. It would be cool if she could reverse them. Although i could be wrong.

Thank you so much for recommending this fantastic book and series. I read it so fast and just loved it. It was so romantic it made me cry. I had to run right out and get New Moon as soon as I finished Twilight. I can’t wait to read them all. Thanks again for the awesome recommendation!
