Alex Rider Adventure: Book 1

Audience: 9 and up

Rating: A-

Synopsis:

A teenage James Bond story! Alex Rider, a 14-year-old British boy, has his life changed forever when the police knock on his door late one night. The officers tell him that his secretive Uncle Ian died in a car accident, but Alex discovers that the car is full of bullet holes! As Alex investigates, he finds more than he ever could have imagined – his uncle wasn’t a banker – he was a spy. Now MI6 wants to recruit Alex too. Alex finds himself left with little choice but to obey and soon finds himself fighting for his life in an undercover mission.

Chatter:

(Spoiler Alerts! ) This is one of the best series I’ve found for preteen boys. (or girls too). Who doesn’t love a good James Bond story? The teenage twist of the Alex Rider books is really quite creative. Alex Rider certainly has an advantage when trying to get into places that adult spies couldn’t. I mean, who suspects a kid of having military training?

There were a couple of holes in the plot, however. Maybe some of them are cleared up in the sequels, but I haven’t read those yet.

1)Where does Jack think Alex is while he’s away on his mission?
2)What happens to all of the computers? If the technology on them is so great, why not just remove the virus and redistribute the computers?
3)Why did Sayle spend so much time and money developing the software if he never intended for it to be used?

Overall, this is a great read – I thought the gadgets Alex used were clever and fun, the book was exciting and fast paced and I will absolutely read the sequels.

Questions:

Do you think Wolf will reappear in any of the sequels?

What would be a better nickname for Alex? (Compared to ‘Double 0 nothing’ or ‘cub’)

Do you think it’s fair for Blunt and Jones to blackmail Alex into accepting the spy mission?

In what (non-violent) way could Sayle have gotten his revenge on the Prime Minister?

wolf will be back in the rest of the series

  2. Point Blank by Anthony Horowitz | Turning the Paige Says:

[...] Alerts! ) Point Blank has a much better ending than Stormbreaker. Talk about a cliffhanger, Alex dueling with his clone- well technically, I guess it’s Dr. [...]

  3. Andrew Says:

I think that it is fair to blackmail Alex because if he didn’t say yes he would have barely any money and would live with someone who needs to renew her visa. And if he didn’t say yes there wouldn’t be any more books because the story wouldn’t have as much action as the book will when he was a spy.

  4. Andrew Says:

I think Sayle could of just got his revenge by asking for an apology because trying to kill someone is not right especially with the disease small pox because that could kill someone very harshly and slowly.

  5. Andrew Says:

I think that wolf will appear in more of the sequels because he will have to go back to training to become a better agent and he needs to go back to get more gadgets to use when he is in need of them.

  6. Andrew Says:

I think a better nickname for Alex is crazy kid because he is crazy and he swam through all the water where it flooded because he had to stop Sayle and figure out all the problems that M16 said about Sayle.
