Ark Angel by Anthony Horowitz

Ark Angel

Alex Rider Adventure: Book 6

Audience: 9 and up

Rating:
B-

Synopsis:

Technically Alex isn’t involved in an MI6 mission at any point in this book. Despite this fact, he can’t seem to avoid danger. It follows him from the hospital in England, to the United States, to a tropical island, to … outer space! Can Alex save the world from eco-terrorists and multibillionaires… again?

Chatter:

(Spoiler Alerts! ) I guess every spy series needs a space novel. Ark Angel is the Alex Rider version of James Bond’s Moonraker. I liked book up until the space part, but then it just became too unrealistic for me. (Not that any part of the Alex Rider series is ever too realistic, but sending an untrained 14-year-old into space?!)

We didn’t really find out an answer to the questions I had after reading Scorpia. I had wanted to know if MI6 would leave Alex alone. So far they have. It was the CIA that manipulated Alex in this book.

MI6 was too busy being fooled by the fake terrorist group Force Three too get Alex in too much danger. Alex, however, seems plenty capable of finding danger on his own. Do you ever want to just shake Alex and say, “it’s not your fight, don’t get involved.” I do! It’s great that he saves ladies from muggers, foils drug dealers, and prevents teenagers from being kidnapped, but for once I’d like to see Alex worry about his own safety.

I guess the books wouldn’t be too exciting if that happened. Also, Alex wouldn’t be that much of a hero if he watched others suffer and didn’t help.

At least he still has Tom Harris. After reading Eagle Strike I complained that Horowitz had written out Sabina, the only friend Alex could share his secrets with. I’m glad that Tom appears in the past two books. Maybe Paul Drevin will pop up again too.

Questions:

Will Alex choose to be involved in any more MI6 missions?

Do you think Paul Drevin will ever forgive Alex?

In what ways were Force Three’s motives good?

What would be a better way to spread the eco-terrorists’ message?

  1. TREEHUGERISBACK! Says:

In the end of the book Paul Drevin found out by mistake that Alex was a secret agent. But then that led to a horrible shooting by his dad, but all Paul ever wanted was a friend. I think that Paul will find a way to forgive for it wasn’t Alex’s fault because Alex was supposed to be on vacation. Also Paul tried to talk to Alex at the end of the book when he got shot, but he was too weak. I also think that Alex would forgive Paul too.
