Magic and Other Misdemeanors by Michael Buckley

Magic and Other Misdemeanors Cover

The Sisters Grimm: Book 5

Audience
: 9 and up

Rating: A-

Synopsis:

Things are NOT going well in Ferryport Landing. To say that the Queen of Hearts is an unfair mayor would be a major understatement. The only thing worse than the ways are currently in the town is the glimpse we get of how they will be. In one part of this book the girls fall through a tear in time and discover the future is even more grime than the present… unless they figure out a way to go back in time and change things for the better.

Chatter:

(Spoiler Alerts! ) This was by far the darkest book of the series. The peek into the future that the girls receive after they fall through the tear in time is beyond depressing. The only positive note is that it’s funny to see Puck married to Sabrina! He continues to be my favorite character – I laughed out loud at his birthday gift to Sabrina.

Daphne is starting to grow on me too! Now that Sabrina finally seems to have settled down and fit in a little bit more, I feel free to like Daphne without feeling like I’m betraying her older sister. I have to admit, she’s a pretty cute character. It was shocking to see that the older version of Daphne is not a smiling happy person. Hopefully the things they changed in the present will alter that part of the future. I didn’t catch whether or not future Daphne still had the scar on her face when they closed the time-tear. Did anyone else notice this? If she was scarless, then that means the girls did manage to change one part of the future, so maybe they could change other parts as well.

It was so shocking to read that there was a whole crowd of Everafters on the Grimms lawn marked with the red handprint. I know that their relationship with the town was tense, but I didn’t think they would be attacked by an angry mob. Now they don’t have Mr. Canis or Hamstead to protect them either. I guess we should just hope that all of the Everafters who came out to support their yard sale will return to help them out again. I bet they’ll live to regret alienating Baba Yaga.

Now we just need to wait until May for the release of book 6: Tales from the Hood. You can pre-order it from Amazon now.

Questions:

Do you think that Prince Charming is truly a member of the Scarlet Hand?

Will Snow ever forgive the Grimms?

When will Puck realize that he’s growing up? (When will he figure out why?!)

Will the girls figure out a way to save Mr. Canis?

Where and how will the girls find Goldilocks?
