Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cover

Audience: 8 and up

Rating:
B

Synopsis:

Greg Heffley’s mom is making him write in a journal. And it’s a journal, NOT a diary! The narrator is a funny, selfish, and very often clueless kid who draws and journals his way through the first year of middle school.

Chatter:

(Spoiler Alerts! ) This book is a very fast read because half of each page is covered with drawings that explain just as much of the book as the words do. Often times you read the text, then have to look at the drawing to get the whole joke. This is a different format for a book – but it was fun to read. This book was very funny too!

I’m glad that Rowley gained some popularity and won the “class clown” superlative at the end of the year – he deserved it after being picked on by his ‘friend’ Greg. Seriously, how did Rowley not realize what an awful friend Greg was? Between being knocked off the big-wheels, pummeled during wrestling practice, and being used for a place to play video games, Rowley was less of a friend and more of a person that Greg could practice his pranks on.

Questions:

What would you have named this book?

Has Greg learned anything during his journal?

What was the funniest part of the book?
