Cross my Heart and Hope to Spy Cover

Gallagher Girls: Book 2

Audience: Middle School

Rating: A-

Synopsis:

Chatter:

(Spoiler Alerts! ) I could use Macey’s only-legal-in Switzerland undereye concealer, because I stayed up all night finishing this book!

Josh? Over him? Over her? Moved on quickly, but strong reaction to seeing Cammie with Zach. He noticed her… but he didn’t really know her. The difference between him and Zach is that Cammie knew him. She knew all about his fears, likes, and dislikes. The really talked and she was comfortable with him.

With Zach, Cammie barely gets to know him at all. They never have conversations about him. Even when he promises to tell her about his parents once she talks about her dad, he instead gets angry and walks away. There’s so much about Zach that’s mysterious and cryptic, and while it cracked me up each time he pointed at himself and said ‘spy,’ it doesn’t really excuse him not opening up at all. Especially since he puts so much emphasis on Cammie trusting him.

I wish the book was longer. I think there needed to be more time to develop what happened between Zach and Cammie and what Blackthorne is and why Rachel Morgan invited the boys there in the first place. If her motive was truly so that the girls would learn to trust males, why set up the situation with so many secrets? Why not allow the boys to talk about Blackthorne? What was the meaning of the new uniforms, spotless rooms, and Zach’s cryptic comments about ‘stepbrothers.’?

Second books are always the hardest and usually spend more time setting up the rest of the series than resolving anything. I just wish we didn’t have to wait until June 9, 2009 to get some answers!

Questions:

Who is a better choice for Cammie, Josh or Zach?

What is the secret of Blackthorne?

Of all of the students, who is the best spy? Why?

Again, what’s the mystery with Cammie’s dad’s death?

Zach is definitely better. i mean, like waaaayyyyy better. meaning, josh is seriously nothing compared to Zach. and when i say nothing, i mean, Zach is all the way up there, and then here’s the lowest, well, josh is below that. lol. no just kidding, but seriously, there is no way that josh and cammie could work. also, cammie was her self most of the time when she was with zach, and all she did was lie when she was with josh, so, cammie and zach’s relationship was way more real than cammie and josh’s. sooo, i rest my case, zach’s definitely better.
